Fredrik’s log. The departure from Falun took place 08.30.
Unfortunately we discovered that the road we had followed from Alfta
had been turned into a motorway between Falun and Borlänge. We
wiggled our way through Falun, which wasn’t the easiest thing
despite a good road description given to us by the really nice Disby
family.
On our way out of Falun we met a cyclist on an incredible
bicycle. I immediately saw that this wasn’t just any cyclist. We
chatted for a bit with the man, who told us some exciting anecdotes
how he climbed one alp peak after another. He also gave us the
advice to take a smaller road to Torsång and from there head to
Smedjebacken. He thought that it would be the best way for cyclists
of our standards to take if one wanted to go Ludvika. Said and done.
We took leave of the bicycle man (he was by the way called Kent
“Alp”) and cycled towards Torsång. So we never cycled into Borlänge.
But outside Falun nature showed us who is in charge. Uphill
slopes, headwind, rain and hail made this stage the worst of them
all. Anitha, Mathias mother who had packed down a rain poncho for
him should have thought again. It is a swell sail which could be a
good thing but not when one is facing headwinds. I can imagine that
it wasn’t all that great (but I wasn’t complaining in my perfect
rain jacket from judogymnasiet, but rather took shelter behind
Mathias). Good going Mathias, understand if you are tired!
Despite all of this we got to Ludvika where we are now eating ice
cream at my mother’s cousin Karin place. Tomorrow we are aiming at
Lindesberg and we all hope for better weather and well-rested legs.
Good night!

Fredrik’s log. After a good night sleep
in Runemo we left at 10.15. We took road 50 from Alfta, today’s aim
was Falun. After having slowly cycled through the deep woods of
Hälsingland we finally came to Dalarna. Risberg showed a strong will
today and we cycled with a steady pace into Falun. After some
juggling among the cycle paths we were met by a brisk man on a bike,
Sören, a friend of the Risberg family, At the Disby family’s house
we got an incredibly tasty dinner.
Full and satisfied we washed our clothes and repacked our bags.
The bags are by the way incredibly great, but well it’s the
phenomenal Zimmerman’s that have made them, so what would you
expect, a thousand thank you Erik and Jenny.
Tomorrow we will continue towards Ludvika. Good night….Zzzzzzzzz
Ps. Bollnäsfil is delicious!

Mathias and Fredrik’s log. At 11.00 we
set out from the Eriksson family in Kallmyr, where we had stayed
overnight. Thanks for good food and accommodation…nice family.
Drove towards Alfta. Full speed towards a bathing place,
Orbaden…like the Riviera, almost ;-) The wodden castle in Arbrå was
a must. Furthermore we got a tip on a wonderful view in Galven, were
we grabbed a bite to eat.
Continued to cycle towards Runemo. A discussion about what
direction our promised dinner with dessert and strawberries where
arose at a crossroad in Långhed, close to Runemo. After several
kilometers disorientation we finally found it. Fantastic dinner,
great welcome and a very exotic storytelling maniac man in the
family…fun character ;-)
Thereafter we cycled into Runemo. Here are we going to stay
overnight at the Olofsson family, acquaintances of Mathias.

Monday the 11th of June 2007 pm
Fredrik’s log. At long last we left
Ånge city at 12.00. At 12.50 Mathias cycled into a ditch and oh how
embarrassed I was but
it turned out just fine. At 12.45 Mathias
dropped a cycle glove which I had to turn to fetch. 2km outside
Östavall we were stopped by a man in a Volvo, he asked if anyone of
us was called Mathias. Because this Mathias had forgot his Visa-card
at the tuck shop in Östavall. Mathias had to turn and go and get it
himself.
I now started to doubt my choice of cycle companion considering
all things that had happened the last 20 km…but it would get worse…
Outside Hennan he tried to murder me in cold blood. In a steep and
long downhill slope Mathias badly packed bag was opened and out came
his fork/knife set. The knife and fork bounced up from the asphalt
and since I came in a speed at 45km/h I had no chance to avoid the
deadly projectiles. But thanks to a few matrix moves I managed to
survive.
In Ljusdal we were overtaken by a racer cyclist and I immediately saw
the opportunity to get a pace-maker. We held 36.8 km/h for 1 km but
after that I couldn’t keep up…Mathias was already far behind. But
the effort was good anyway considering the distance and the luggage.
Tonight are we going to sleep at Andreas (a friend of mine who
also trains judo) and his family in Kallmyr. The day was ended with
a bath in Lungtjärn and a good evening meal.

Monday the 11th of June
2007 am
Mathias and Fredrik’s log. Today we
will start our journey on bike from Ånge down to Diepholz in
Germany, to take part in the international school project the Global
Classroom, which will take place in Graf Fredrich Schule in the
beginning of July. This year’s theme is responsibility, especially
towards the environment, which is what we especially want to work
for through this bike trip.
The participating countries are Sweden, The UK, Germany,
Czech Republic, South Africa and Japan. Only one school from each
country takes part and from them only a few students have the
opportunity to go to the annual conference.
The ones who are cycling are Mathias Risberg and Fredrik
Viksten from Bobergsgymnasiet in Ånge.

Sunday the 10th of June
2007
Fredrik’s log. After a hard graduation
celebration my hangover finally went away. I quickly packed my
clothes and cycled to Ånge, around 34 km.
In Ånge at the Risberg Family we fixed the bikes and started to
plan the following days in more detail. The first stop will be
Kallmyr 15km outside Ljusdal. It seems promising and we are supposed
to get fine weather.
Good night, and thanks for all the help Risberg Family.
